The LIFE Project is working with the National Trust on the Ysbyty Ifan estate to block over 68km of drains. Staff from the project partnership and the Trust have been discussing the work with local tenants for the past two years and blocking started on three tenancies at the end of January.
In association with this work, scientists from Defra, the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in Bangor and the University of Leeds are carrying out research into the climate change implications of such work. They have monitored 12 drains before blocking took place and will continue to look at them after blocking to get a better understanding of gas exchange.
