Published on 06/Apr/2010The National Assembly's rural development sub-committee has recently completed a seven-month inquiry that could secure a future prosperity and also preserves the uplands in Wales.
Reported in the Western Mail today, the report, The Future of the Uplands, says farming and food production play an important role in the uplands as well as the provision of other services such as carbon reduction, biodiversity protection and flood alleviation. This could be key to encouraging more farmers - especially young farmers - to remain and work in the uplands.
The report also calls on the Government to carry out an assessment of the effects of wind turbines on the uplands, in particular on deep peat, with regard to carbon storage.
