LIFE ComPEATing with the best!

The LIFE Active Blanket Bog in Wales project has won recognition across the UK by being awarded second place in the IUCN UK Peatland Programme’s competition, ComPEAT, for the most inspiring communication of a peatland issue.

Over the last three years, we have taken more than 1,000 children up onto the blanket bog at Lake Vyrnwy and have spoken to over 650 children in schools.

The judges’ comments spoke very highly of the programme:

"A well targeted project with a tangible outcome, using the most powerful of motivating tools: that of personal experience/engagement. A strong partnership infra-structure results in a myriad of outcomes from artwork to poetry."

"Great links across school and wider community activity.  Links with Welsh language and supporting comments from teachers illustrate the value of the experience and a wider sense of place.  Strong messages about peatland conservation."

"Project has real substance and ecological outcomes – but communication is integral, not an afterthought."

Well done to all involved!
